Forking - Haarukointia

Have you ever made lace with a lace fork ?(I am not sure about the right translation here and I have not come over this old technique in any English blogs (as in the English language) so you just have to try to figure out what I mean. If any of you have a right word for this feel free to leave a comment, please.). It ended up as a beautiful wave pattern and it was not difficult to make (new to me until now), but it was very tedious in the end.

First you start with one loop and then you start crocheting up in the middle of the fork so that loops are formed on both sides around the fork . You make between 200-700 loops (this has 650 approx lengthwise) and then (and only then) you start crocheting around the edges to form the pattern. When you have come to one end of the loop string, you go around the corner and back again. Now you have 1/6th of the scarf done. Make 4 more similar pieces (crochet together as you go along) and finally a border all around. As I said not difficult but rather boring + realizing your scarf is WAY too long you cannot frog 'a little' from the end to make it shorter as you would with any other scarf , so you'd have to (I have to) frog the whole thing because the way it's made up. Shit happens, so to speak. This scarf is very nice, my colour exactly but being another yarn than recommended it turned out TOO long (the rug is about 200cm) to wear. I was new to this technique and could not foresee this while I was working on it. If anybody's interested I can try to translate it to English and make some sort of tutorial too. Please leave comments if you like it.

Oletko ikinä tehnyt pitsiä haarukalla? Siihen tulee kaunis aaltomainen kuvio eikä sitä ollut vaikea tehdä (tähän asti uusi tekniikka minulle), mutta loppua kohti kävi kyllä kyllästyttämään.

Yhdellä silmukalla aloitettiin ja virkattiin harukan keskustassa samalla muodostaen silmukoita haarukan ympäri molemmin puolin. Huiviin tarvitaan 200-700 silmukkaa (tässä noin 650) ja sitten (mutta vasta sitten) alat ketjusilmukoilla yhdistämään silmukoita jotta kuvio muodostuu. Kun olet päässyt silmukkarivin toiseen pähän kierrät pään ja taas takaisin. Nyt sinulla on noin 1/6 huivista valmiina. Tee vielä 4 samanlaista kaitaletta yhdistäen ne aina sitä mukaan kun etenet ja lopulta kaiken ympärille vielä reunus. Kuten sanoin tämä ei ole vaikaa, mutta ehkä vähän tylsää, ja varsinkin jos huomaa huivin valmistutta että se on AIVAN liian pitkä sillä huivista ei voi purkaa vähän päästä kuten minkä tahansa muun huivin kanssa tekisit vaan se on purettava kokonaan sen vuoksi miten se on tehty. Shit happens, niin sanotusti. Huivi on tosi kaunis, ja juuri minun värinen, mutta koska en käyttänyt ohjeessa annettua lankaa siitä tuli liian pitkä (matto noin 200cm) jotta sitä voisi käyttää. Tekniikka oli minulle uusi enkä näin tehdessäni sitä osannut nähdä että ongelmaa oli tiedossa. Jos kiinnostuneita löytyy voin yrittää tehdä jonkunlaisen opetussarjan tästä (Novitan sivuilta tuskin pääsee katsomaan jollei ole jäsen?!) . Ole hyvä ja jätä kommentti.

Black Cousteau - Musta Cousteau

Though this picture, again, is stupid the hat is very nice and I have since made many more like this one and I am sure the last one from my needles has not yet seen the daylight either. The pattern was simple, it's versatile to many yarns and it sits very well on nearly any head. Do you need any more good reasons to make a Cousteau. Thank you Typy for the great pattern!

Vaikka tämä kuva on (jälleen kerran) huono, niin piposta tuli hyvä ja olen sittemmin tehnyt muutaman muunkin. Olen myöskin varma ettei viimeinen Cousteau minun puikoiltani ole vielä nähnyt päivänvaloa. Ohje oli yksinkertainen, sitä voi soveltaa monelle langalle ja pipo istuu useimpiin päihin. Kiri

This is my first bigger lace project and it turned out very well. In this picture thought it is not yet blocked. I have no idea why spending 5 minutes on proper photography has been so hard for me before since I spend hours and hours on end making the projects up, but then won't spend a few extra minutes to get a nice picture of it. At least I have learned the meaning of good photography browsing through thousands of knit blogs :) I am still no guru at photoshooting, but I'm getting there. I have a good camera so I cannot blame anything on that. Eventually you will get a picture of this shawl blocked too - be patient

Tämä oli ensimmäisiä suurempia pitsitöitäni ja siitä tuli oikein mukava. Tässä kuvassa sitä tosin ei ole pingotettu vielä. En ymmärrä miksi ennen oli niin vaikea uhrata 5 minuuttia hyvän kuvan ottamiseen ottaen huomioon että kuitenkin käytän tuntitolkulla jonkun työn tekemiseen mutta sitten en viitsi uhrata muutamaa hetkeä lisää jotta saan edustavasti työni tuotua esille. Tämän siis olen ainakin oppinut selatessani tuhansia neuleblogeja. En ole vieläkään mikään haka valokuvaaja, mutta harjoitus tekee mestarin. Ainakin minulla on hyvä kamera, joten kaikki mokat ovat suoraan minun. Aikanaan tulen postaamaan myös kuvia pingotetusta huivista, kunhan olette kärsivällisiä.

Two peas in a pot - kuin kaksi marjaa

For my godchildren's 1st birthday I wanted to make something nice, perhaps something that they will still have when they are adults. Like I still have that brown dog (minus the tail that came off, looked like shit on it's own and is since lost :)) that I got for my first birthday. It is called Voppe (don't ask, it does not mean anything in any language I speak). So I found this rather adoring pattern somewhere. I made one test bunny first that has been very important to my older daughter since although she was already 6 when she got it. I will post pictures of the original later.

Kummilasteni yksivuotispäiville halusin tehdä jotain mukavaa, jotain joka heillä ehkä olisi tallessa vielä aikuisina kuten minun ruskea koirani Voppe (ei tarkoita mitään millään tuntemallani kielellä) jolta puuttuu häntä (se irtosi, näytti kakkapökäleeltä ja on sittemmin hukkunut). Jostain löysin tämän herttaisen ohjeen. Ensin tein testipupun joka on ollut tärkeä vanhemalle tyttärelleni siitä asti kun sen tein vaikka hän siihen aikaan oli jo kuusivuotias. Let me present to you, the one and only Helmi (translated: Pearl). Named by my daughter as well as loved, hugged, squeezed, kissed and held. This is THE original after which I made the two colorful bunnies for the girls.

Saanko esitellä, ainoa oikea Heli. Tyttäreni on hänet nimennyt, häntä rakastanut, halannut, rutistanut, suukotellut ja pidellyt. Tämä on se ensimmäinen uniikkikappale jonka jälkeen tein ne kaksi värikkäämpää pupua tytöille.

Yellow - Keltaista

Surprisingly I was not put off after the fiasco with the stiff crocheted flower jumper and decided to try my luck with the rest of the yellow Tennessee, this time knitting. This turned out very nice, and not stiff at all, it must have been the tightness of crocheting that made the last one stiff. This is now grown out of, but it has been used a lot by both girls.

Kumma kyllä en lannistunut edellisen fiascon jälkeen jossa keltaisesta kukkapaidasta tulikin panssaripaita. Päätin kokeilla onneani lopulla keltaisella Tennesseellä, tällä kertaa neuloen. Tästä tulikin mukava, eikä ollenkaan jäykkä, edellisessä ongelma oli ehkä virkkaamisen tiheys. Tästä ollaan jo kasvettu ulos, mutta molemmat tytöt ovat käyttäneet sitä paljon.

Felting again - huovutin taas

I decided to try felting again. Nobody had told me that to prevent felting a ball you should sew a plastic bag or something of that sort into the hat. I was very lucky that it came out as a hat. It's not bad, but it's not very great either, there's quite a few things I'd change having the experience that I have now. The ear flaps are placed wrong and the strings are of no use + I would certainly decorate the hat by needlefelting something on it. Other than that it's very warm and cosy, which is of course good.

Päätin taas kokeilla huovutusta. Kukaan ei ollut kertonut minulle että estääksesi itsesi huovuttamasta villapallon sinun tulisi ommella tai muulla tavoin kiinnittää muovipussi tms hatun sisään. Olin onnekas että tästä silti tuli hattu. Ei ole huono hattu, mutta ei nyt kovin erikoinenkaan. Nykytiedollani muuttaisin muutamaa asiaa. Korvaläpät ovat väärässä paikassa, nauhoista ei ole mitään iloa, ja ennen kaikkea koristelisin hatun neulahuovuttamalla jotakin edustaan. Muuten hattu on lämmin ja mukava, mikä tietysti on eduksi.
