wedding present - häälahja

I made this pair of socks - a very traditional Finnish Jussi-pattern - for a friend who is a true patriot. His wife got a pair of purple shaded socks that I forgot to take a picture of. If ever she gets around to taking the picture I so nicely asked for I will post it, of course. (and they also got some money for their honeymoon, this was just a little extra something :)).

These socks were THE challenge. *sigh*. They caused me so much trouble. There was no way I could get the squares nice on dpn's for a reason I don't know so I ended up knitting that bit flat - which of course resulted in a 5cm split at the ankle. In the end I managed to close that hole so that it does not stand out, perhaps even so that nobody will notice, but it bothers me so because _I_ know, don't I?

On top of that I had to keep frogging and knitting because the pattern was no good. I had to add some ribbing at the ankle which wasn't originally there because the socks were totally weird without it and make other modifications too - like I never had a pattern in the first place. In the picture they look nice though and the receiver seemed happy so all is well.

Nämä sukat olivat Haaste isolla H:lla. *huokaus*.

Joker started - Jokeri aloitettu

I have previously always been wondering while reading other blogs how some people can have even five or six projects at the same time and seem to keep track and enjoy it. I always only had one (here we don't take into count those dumped to the bottom of the basket because there's a mistake or lack of inspiration) until I started making little things for people I work with. Suddenly I realized how fun it is and also how handy it comes in sometimes to be able to say to people 'oh yes, I have indeed started it already' :)

I don't knit with a schedule and I rather do not promise to make something ready for a certain date. I am after all a full-time-working mother of two with husband(to-be) and a house to take care of. Beside work I do not need any more musts in my life :) Now I have made an exception though and promised to make a vest the same as I made for my truly for my friends father for Christmas. I am glad Christmas is still a good two months away.

All the same I started this joker hat for my godchild yesterday, I just happened to have a yellow day :) Originally this hat was made out of double Alpaca yarn but that is hard to come by as well as expensive so when I figured this fine Finnish yarn is about the same I went for it.

second brown vest - toinen ruskea liivi

Now how come I am so productive now although I have been working a lot too. This vest seemed to come along in no time. It turned out fine, better than the first one although I had to modify the pattern quite a bit because of the measurements I was given. It was a bit boring to actually make the same vest in the same colors too, but my friend insisted on the colors. Don't you think I am taking the same picture twice, I have in fact made two of these (look at the checkered bit carefully if you don't believe me).

Eventually this will end up as a dragon scarf for my dear friend. The one who always manages to spot things she wants with the vaguest of instructions :) Like the cabled tote I posted earlier, and now this. Her believe in my abilities has no limits - like I need no instructions :)

Tästä on tuleva lohikäärmehuivi rakkaalle ystävälleni.
