Blue pullover - Sininen palmikkopaita

Whilst talking about knitting at work a colleague asked me (remember that I've changed jobs - at the old place everbody knew for sure because I knit that much for everybody :)) if I knit anything for anybody else but my own family. Having said yes, it only took a few days for her to come with a bag of yarn, she wanted a pullover for her son.

Soon we had agreed on a pattern, and although the pattern asked for cotton I used wool and it turned out just fine :) (if not better :)). I am rather pleased with the neat result, I even managed to get the shoulder seems stitched together (Kitchner) so that the cables continue like they should over the shoulder. Not too bad, if I may say so myself :)

Black fingerless gloves II - Mustat kämmekkäät II

Here we have pair number two, not much different, but instead of the opening on the thumb I knit a hood. Let's see which pair is more liked.

Black fingerless gloves I - Mustat kämmekkäät I

A friend of mine has bascially enabled my Sylvi to ever be finished. I bougth a LOT of yarn, but still ran out because of different gauge. She's brougth me three nearly full balls of yarn (to be found in no shop, not even the factory...) and even her sons unfinished hat :) All she wanted in return was for me to knit her two pairs of fingerless gloves, she even brought me the yarn. Happily I did. Here's pair number one.

Gail- (aka Nightsongs) shawl - Gail huivi

A colleague of mine very much like my shawl (which wasn't a Gail, but a Lehmus) and I pretty much begged her to let me knit her a scarf (because I love knitting shawls but there's only that many shawls a woman needs). She didn't really have a preference as to the pattern so I chose the Gail because I knit one for myself earlier but it turned out very tiny because I run out of yarn - I liked the pattern and wanted to knit a full size one.

Knitting it was pretty straight forward, the pattern works :) I was still happy though that I had a couple of lifelines there because I made quite a few mistakes (knitting tired and paying too little attention). Only once I had to frog to the closest lifeline though, the rest could be camouflaged by minor corrections over one of the next few rows - no one will notice a difference :)

Light blue Tunic - Vaaleansininen kietaisutunika

I am slowly getting there, getting the hang of my knitting again. It feels good. I am still not up to speed, it seems I have learned to watch tv without my knitting. I have yet to decide whether that is good or bad :)

This is a tunic I've been wanting to knit for my daughter for ages already, and I have also been knitting it for ages already :) But now it's done, and both myself and my daughter are happy with the way it turned out. It's a bit on the loose side, but then again she will grow.

basic socks - perussukat

Hi. I'm not dead, even if many of you may have thought so by now. It's just that there's a special 'person' in my life now that recently have taken up all my energy. Since July to be exact, and even before that. She was born in mid May, but came to live with us on July 13. Let me introduce to you Kisanne Material Girl aka Tikku (Finnish word for stick - look at her tail that is crooked).

But, eventually I managed to finish a pair of socks, and I also work on a sweater for my daughter and a pair of mitts for a friend. That's all, I hope to be more productive now that my baby has grown a little (well she's grown a LOT, but her brain has grown a little :)), I miss knitting a lot, I've just been to tired with the change of jobs and the dog and all.

Terve.

Lisää samalla tavalla kaksi silmukkaa taas 20cm kohdalla.

Lisäykset on tehty.

Knee socks, foot 39, shin circumference 39cm

Use your preferred method of casting on for starting a toe up sock. Cast on for a total of 52 stitches (ie if you use the short row toe method cast on 26 stitches) I used a provisional cast on and did a short row toe leaving 8 stitches in the middle. If you don't know how to do a short row toe with a provisional cast on, see how Wendy Johnson did it.

Keep knitting in the round until foot measures 19cm from the tip of the toe. Make one stitch before the first stitch on TOP of the foot and one stitch after the last stitch. Repeat at 20cm.

When foot measures 21,5cm do a short row heel. Again see above instructions by Wendy if you are not familiar with this heel. After the heel I often pick up one in between the heel and the foot to make sure no hole is formed. Later I knit two together to loose that stitch, but this time I left it where it was. Now continue knitting for about 7cm (from where the heel ends). You should now be about where the shin start widening again.

From now on the beginning and end of round is at the back of the shin. Now make 1 (alternating between right and left needle) one, work that row to the end and three more even. Repeat 4 more times (a total of 5 stitches made ending with three even rows). Work should now measure about 15,5cm from end of heel (where the short rows end). If your gauge is different adjust accordingly.

Next make 1 in the beginning of the row as wells as in the end (=m2). I prefer to make one stitch on the previous row to get them in the same line but that does not matter in the end). Work two rows even. Repeat this (make 2, work three rows even) 10 more times.

Now make 2, work three rows even. Repeat 6 more times. Then make 2, work four rows even and repeat this for a total of 8 times. Now stop increasing and work even for 24 rows.

K1,P1 for 6,5cm and bind off loosely. With this rib I used a tubular bind off. If you are not familiar with this see how Savannahchick did it :)

Knee socks - Polvisukat

For a while already I've had a problem with disliking most self-striping yarn that I have bought. It was a happy moment for me when I saw this yarn in my stash and I liked it so much that I decided to knit myself a pair of knee socks:) I dislike wearing stockings or leggings even during the winter so knee socks has turned out to be my thing - they will keep my legs warm under my jeans :) I had no pattern her so I just wrote down what I did and counted as I went along. They turned out great. Time will show if I'll need to by some elastic silicone rubber band to get the socks to stay up as they get a little looser.

2 pairs of socks - kaksi sukkaparia

My own family is drowning in socks and gloves and so I made a pair of socks each for my lovely goddaughters ( now aged 4 1/2). They came along fast, just very basic socks. This was a reduce-my-huge-stash effort and although it did not reduce my stash much, just a little, it was worth it :)

Gail

I've had this yarn for ages, and it's very very pretty in the ball, but as soon as I started knitting it started pooling awfully. I've tried several different approaches but never liked one. This was the millionth or so pattern I tried and finally, FINALLY it's not too bad. Unfortunately I run out of yarn since I only had a 100g ball and started with a couple of sizes too small needle. But who cares, I am happy with my teeny weeny scarf and it will look rather good with my lilac winter jacket next year :)

Lion's lace shawl - Lion's lace huivi

My friend asked me for a lace shawl for winter (ie warm as well) knit from thicker wool than lace wool. She brought me the yarn which obviously was what I had to work with. The yarn was very very nice to knit and the shawl knit up fast and was easily memorized ie perfect for tv-knitting :) The size ended up way smaller than requested (she asked for approx 240 x 90cm) but I ran out of yarn. I asked her whether she'd wait for me buying more yarn but she preferred to get the shawl the size it was then.

Likewise a desperate stash eating effort. I dislike the yarn. Still. Deeply. The sock pattern was A LOT OF FUN and very well made, easy to follow and the result was very fitting.

An American in China - socks - sukat

A little, desperate move to reduce the stash. At least a little, it's not like this 67g makes a huge hole in my stash :) I cannot for my life figure why I have bought so much self-striping sock yarn, this particular colourway is okay, but the turquoise I last used is hideous. Anyway, this blue yarn is now finished, as in NONE left :)

The pattern I used was not brilliant, either I'm stupid or the pattern was full of little strange parts so I had to make a lot of mods. I will tell you about them here because there's too many to list under mods :) To start with my yarn was not exactly making gauge so I had 4 extra stitches. I also widened the linen stitch to 3 stitches more on each side because the change of pattern at the same point as the needle change was was just not good. Therefore, of course, I had to make mods around the heel to catch up with the pattern. The heel was supposed to be worked with 17st in linen stich, I used 19 because of the four extra stitches I had. In retrospect the heel is really not nice, did I make a new pair now that I'm wiser I would definitely make the heel flap at least 4-6 stitches wider, as it is it isn't very nice on the heel. Also coming up to the ribbing I had to make 4 short rows at the back because the leg of the sock was lookin all weird and it was way too low at the back. I still don't like these socks very much, but considering how many mods I had to make I am quite happy with the outcome. At least they look like socks, they did not at all points :/

Not a very good picture, but you can see the change in the pattern.

Jaywalkers

Hating this sock yarn (why did I EVER by such an ugly ball of yarn, beats me...) I wanted it out of my stash. This was the second pair I made out of it and unfortunately there's yarn left for a third pair (there were 2 x 100g balls originally). Sigh. Knitting the Jaywalkers was nice enough, made up a little for the ugly yarn :) I used the toe up version of Grumperina's original pattern which is found HERE on Ravelry. The toe up version was written down by Natalia and can be found here.

Denim Poncho - farkunsininen Poncho

Rather dull and boring to make, but the outcome is quite allright :) I rather dislike the monotonous cutting of the fringe but crocheting layer after layer of chains is not really that exciting either. All the same, this is not for me, but for a friend so I am glad I made it :)

I had to make some mods because allthough I used the yarn indicated as well as given sized needles and hook the poncho was about 25 cm high (max) by the time it was done according to the pattern. I just wonder.... I couldn't figure it out. I can usually count on gauge if I use the given yarn + needle but this time it just didn't work. So I just crocheted until I ran out of yarn .
